Frank Báez [Dominican Republic, 1978]
Those who venture into Frank Báez’s poetry find themselves immersed in a tragicomic, seemingly autobiographical world. His poems are narrative and anecdotal and are frequently about life in the Caribbean: the sea, the quay, the pier. Only reading Báez’s poems quietly on paper would be a failure to do right by them – and yourself: Báez is a performance poet. He likes working with musicians, sometimes even with an entire band. In 2017 Báez was the only poet to be featured in Bogotá39, the list of the most noteworthy Latin-American writers under the age of forty.
