Anne Vegter and Paul Demets will read from their recent work. These two poets are both highly engaged with social reality and the more problematic aspects of life.
Anne Vegter made this abundantly clear during her time as ‘Dichter des Vaderlands’ (Dutch Poet Laureate), and is set to do so again over the next couple of years (2021-2022) in her new role as Rotterdam City Poet.
In his role as rural poet in East Flanders Paul Demets wrote poetry about country life in all its many facets, ranging from nature and climate to farm life, tradition and modernisation. The multiple perspectives in his work create space and structures where facts, characters and events connect.
Anne Vegter’s work reveals a similar multiplicity of perspectives, equally observant and interpersonal, though her world consists of elements of her personal life and of urban reality.
