Poet

Péter Závada [Hongary, 1982]

Péter Závada is a poet and playwright born in Budapest. At a young age, before going on to focus completely on poetry and theatre, he was part of the successful rap and slam poetry group Akkezdet Phiai. Since then he has published three volumes of poetry and written a number of plays. His debut collection was largely playful in nature, with Závada in search of the right form. Where personal grief and loss play an important role in his second book, in his most recent collection he explores broader, more universal themes. In doing so, Závada shifts the boundaries of his poetry in ways that – while they may not be immediately apparent – will subtly affect readers.
