"Vrije jongen, vrije liefde, vrije handel. En toch loert overal ook angst voor vrije val."

Dichter

Tom Lanoye [Belgium, 1958]

The Flemish novelist, playwright, poet, screenwriter and performer Tom Lanoye divides his time between Antwerp and Kaapstad. His first poetry collection, In de piste ('In the Ring’), was published in 1984. His works for print and performance have been published or staged in more than 15 languages, and six of his novels have been adapted for the screen. He was the author of the 2012 Poetry Gift Heldere hemel (‘Clear Sky’) – the publication given to every reader who buys books during Dutch Poetry Week. This year he wrote the Poetry Gift Vrij – wij? (‘Free – We?’). Lanoye’s work has received numerous awards, including the Constantijn Huygens Prize for his entire oeuvre, the Henriette Roland Holst Award, the Gouden Ganzeveer (Golden Goose Feather) and both the Gouden Uil (Golden Owl) jury and audience prizes. Performance is at the heart of his poetry and all of his writing: “I consider performing to be a part of not only my being an author, but of being an author in general.”
