"Everything becomes holy at six o’clock"

Poet

Vahni Capildeo [Trinidad and Tobago/United Kingdom, 1973]

Vahni Capildeo is a poet and academic who lives both in Trinidad and Scotland. Multilingual, polyphonic and focused on the poetics of place, their work similarly transcends boundaries and defies easy categorisation. Capildeo’s award-winning Measures of Expatration (2016), for example, explores the feeling of being at home and yet not at home at the same time. Venus as a Bear (2018) is their eighth and most recent collection, in which real-life places and people play an important role. The poems are layered, highly precise and characterised by their powerful composition. Capildeo has a DPhil in translation theory and old Norse literature.
