Street poetry has as many meanings as there are walls to write on. It is often created on commission, but sometimes the anonymous maker disappears before the first sunlight touches the wall. Street poetry frequently serves to enrich public space by inspiring passersby in the moment or enhancing the atmosphere of an area. Activist street poems, however, have ambitions that reach far beyond the walls they occupy. They carry critical voices and messages of activism.
During this program, curated and moderated by Kila van der Starre, we explore the function of street poetry in different contexts.
