Femi writes about growing up on a housing estate in South London, its architecture and nightlife culture. In his latest collection, <em>The Wickedest<\/em>, the reader experiences, in a poetic long take of a single night, a London Shoob. These are parties where living rooms turn into a club. Her experimental, sometimes absurd detours catch you&nbsp;off guard&nbsp;and suddenly lead you past Kim Kardashian and the mysterious life of the eel. With her sharp, observant eye and exuberant use of language, partly rooted in hip hop and inspired by Sranantongo and Surinamese Maroon languages, she is steadily building a distinctive body of work. She writes columns for <em>NRC<\/em> and <em>De Morgen<\/em>, presents poetry slams, and is the co-host of the popular podcast BoekenFM. With bestsellers like <em>Olijven moet je leren lezen<\/em>, she makes poetry accessible to a wide audience. In 2024, Deckwitz was appointed as the city poet of Amsterdam.
