Say no more!

When you think of the poetry of everyday life, your own childhood might not immediately come to mind. But in the bedrooms of many Dutch children, a customized little book once proudly took pride of place: the poesiealbum! In this program, we fully embrace nostalgia and dive into the history of the poesiealbum and its predecessors.

Sophie Reinders, literary scholar and lecturer at Utrecht University, will give a mini-lecture on the predecessor of the poesiealbum: the aristocratic friendship book from the early modern period. Afterwards, the moderator will take poets Ellen Deckwitz and Iduna Paalman back to their childhood: the rhymes, the cat stickers, the social dynamics of primary school, and their first memories of poetry. After the program, don’t forget to add your own entry to Poetry’s poesiealbum in the foyer!
