Below is an overview of the measures we have taken to ensure accessibility at the Poetry International Festival.

Do you have tips or questions? Please contact Sanne Pheninckx at pheninckx@poetry.nl or +31 6 25 167 204 (office phone). During the festival, we are also reachable on this number, and you can visit the information desk. This way, you can fully enjoy your festival experience without worries!

Poetry Buddies

Poetry Buddies are volunteers available to support visitors who want support. They are ready to support when needed but will never offer assistance without being asked. If you need help, you can recognise Poetry Buddies by their special T-shirts, feel free to approach them!

You can also request the support of a Poetry Buddy in advance. For example, would you like a Poetry Buddy with you throughout your visit, or only on arrival and departure? Do you need support getting from the car park or the metro station to one of the festival venues? Please email Sanne Pheninckx at pheninckx@poetry.nl or call +31 6 25 167 204 (office phone), and we will arrange it for you.

Low-Stimulation Space

During the Poetry International Festival, the foyer will host the Silent Poetry Nook: a low-stimulation space where you can take a break from the hustle and bustle. This area is specially designed for visitors who need calm, quiet, or a moment to recharge. The Silent Poetry Nook provides comfortable seating, and noise-cancelling headphones are available.

Visitors who are Blind or have Low Vision

We are happy to offer visitors who are blind or have low vision the option of front-row seating in the halls. If you are bringing a guide dog, they are welcome in all venues. To make your visit as comfortable as possible, please let Sanne Pheninckx know via pheninckx@poetry.nl or +31 6 25 167 204 which day(s) you plan to attend the festival.

Deaf or Hard of Hearing Visitors

Believing that sign language is a fully valid poetic language, we create a festival programme specifically for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. On this day, international deaf or hard-of-hearing artists will perform, and several programmes will be translated into Dutch Sign Language (NGT) via interpreters, Soundshape, and captioning. The online programme overview allows filtering so you can quickly find events suited to your needs and preferences.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Poetry International Festival and enjoying the beautiful world of poetry together!

For more information on the festival days, locations, and tickets, please visit the ‘Plan your visit’ page.

Poetry International is committed to making poetry in all its forms accessible, meaningful, and inclusive for everyone.
