Deliciously Dancing with the Devil

Archive tour by Simon Branka
June 21, 2023

The devil, the supreme spirit of evil, appears in different forms and has variant meanings worldwide. The imagery of the devil may symbolize something purely evil or some wrongdoings. However, it is also interpreted as something tempting and pleasurable; often a piece of art may be called ‘the devil’s work’ because it is too good to be human-made. Furthermore, the imagery of the devil has connotations with sex acts of different kinds. All those different interpretations are merely a few examples the devil can be associated with and those interpretations and more are reoccurring imageries in poetry.

This archive tour takes you on a delicious dancing journey along 13 poems that express the imagery of the devil in their verses. Those poems from around the world present different interpretations of the devil and highlight how one symbol may imbed many different meanings.
