Bernice Vreedzaam (Paramaribo, 1972) is a poet and writer. Her debut collection De vogelgrens oversteken was published in September 2025 by Atlas Contact. Vreedzaam is rapidly emerging as one of the most exciting voices in Dutch poetry. With her sharp, observant eye and exuberant use of language, partly rooted in hip hop and inspired by Sranantongo and Surinamese Maroon languages, she is steadily building a distinctive body of work. She is currently working on her first novel, to be published in 2027.
