Melanin Kris

Melanin Kris is a multidisciplinary cultural storyteller based in Rotterdam. Rooted in the diasporic experience, his work moves at the intersection of spoken word, performance, Afrofuturism and speculative imagination — guided by the creative mission: Know your History, Architect the Future.

His practice spans immersive poetry shows, multimedia installations and collaborative sound projects. His show The Legacy of Colonization explored pre-colonial history through the eyes of museum artefacts. In 2025, his self-portrait and digital poetry merged with kawina music in a permanent multimedia installation at Carnegie Hall, New York: A Colored Illusion. He is part of the speculative arts collective BSAM, and released the vinyl single ‘Sweet & Sour’ with Sweet Toko — a fusion of spoken thoughts and Afro-Latin music in Sranantongo. Throughout the year, he facilitates workshops in poetry, storytelling and performance across the Netherlands and beyond.
