Ellen Deckwitz (1982) is a poet, writer, columnist, and performer with boundless energy and a sharp eye for language and literature. Since her debut De steen vreest mij (2011), awarded the C. Buddingh’ prize, she has developed into one of the most influential voices in Dutch poetry. She writes columns for NRC and De Morgen, presents poetry slams, and is the co-host of the popular podcast BoekenFM. With bestsellers like Olijven moet je leren lezen, she makes poetry accessible to a wide audience. In 2024, Deckwitz was appointed as the city poet of Amsterdam. In 2026, she wrote the ‘poetry gift’, a chapbook of poems that is distributed free of charge in bookstores for the yearly Poetry Week, titled Metamorfosen (Metamorphoses).
